Dhanteras is known as the first day that marks the beginning of the much-awaited Diwali festival in India. It is celebrated two days before Diwali. This year, it will fall on 2nd November, Tuesday. This festival is considered the celebration of prosperity and wealth and is a holy day for buying jewelry such as gold or silver, property, automobile, etc. The word Dhanteras consists of two words – Dhan and Teras. Dhan means wealth, and teras means the thirteenth day. Considering the Hindu Calendar, it is celebrated in the Krishna Paksha on the thirteenth lunar day in the month of Ashwin. It is also called Dhanvantari Trayodashi or Dhanatrayodashi. As per the significance, on the day of Dhantrayodashi, Goddess Lakshmi came out of the milk’s ocean during the Samundra Manthan or churning of the sea. Therefore, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped during this day. According to the legends, when the churning of the ocean was performed for Amrita, Dhanvantari, God of Ayurveda, emerged carrying a jar or Kalash of the elixir on this day. That is why utensils are also purchased on this day. The auspicious time of worshipping is from 6:18 PM to 8:11 PM. To worship, put the red-colored cloth on the space. After this, establish the idols of Mata Lakshmi, Lord Kuber, and Lord Dhanvantari, after sprinkling Gangajal. Light a ghee lamp and incense sticks, and offer red-colored flowers. Put the bought utensils or jewelry in this space. Recite Lakshmi Stotra, Lakshmi Chalisa, and Dhanvantari Stotra.  Happy Dhanteras To All of You!
