Chhath Puja is also called Surya Shasthi and is celebrated on the Kartik Shukla Shashthi. It is usually celebrated six days after the Diwali festival and is primarily celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh with great pomp and show. This festival has gained great significance as a folk festival, and this is the reason that this festival is celebrated with great zeal and energy. Chhath Puja is the festival celebrated to thank Surya Devta – the Sun God, the God of life, force and energy. It is believed that on Chhath Puja, worshipping Surya Devta and Chhathi Maiya gives health, success, happiness and prosperity. Worshipping Chhathi Maiya brings protection and longevity to the offspring.

When is Chhath Puja in 2022? – Date & Time

This year, Chhath Puja will fall on 30th, October 2022, Sunday. It is a four-day festival wherein the devotees follow various traditions and rituals and gather in merry-making. This festival begins with the Kartik Shukla Chaturthi, and the ending will be on Kartik Shukla Saptami. On 30th October, the Sunset time or Sandhya Arghya time will be 5:37 PM, and the Sunrise time or Usha Arghya time, will be 6:31 AM on 31st October.

Chhath Puja – The Rituals and Celebrations

There are four-day-long celebrations; each day has significance and importance, and different rituals are performed on all four days. On the first day, the devotees usually take a bath in the Ganges or holy water after waking up early, and they clean their homes thoroughly and make them neat and clean. On this day, they prepare shudh shakahari bhojan. On the second day, the devotees observe the fast and break it in the evening by having kheer and ghee chapati.
