Shravan Month 2023: Date, Significance, Traditions and Wishes

In India, various festivals are celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion. Shravan Month is considered highly auspicious to worship Lord Bholenath and seek his blessings. In simple terms, it is the month of Bhole Bhandari. It is believed that those who worship Lord Shiva during this sacred month; are blessed with prosperity, success and real bliss. Shravan Month is also recognized by other names such as Sawan Maas or Shravan. This month is promising from the religious and astrological points of view. This year, the Sawan Maas will last for two months, and there will be eight Mondays or Sawan Somvaar. This holy event has been happening after nineteen years.

When Will Shravan Month 2023 Start?

This year, the Shravan Month will start on the 4th of, July, 2023 Tuesday and will continue till the 31st of August 2023, Thursday. It presents that this auspicious month will span for fifty-eight days. Astrologically, this significant event has been happening due to the “Adhik Maas.” Also, there will be eight Sawan Somvaar. This extended period will offer more duration for Lord Shiva devotees to worship him with dedication and devotion.

Traditions, Rituals and Significance

All Mondays are considered auspicious to worship Lord Shiva. It is believed that those who worship Lord Bholenath on all the Sawan Somvaar and keep fast get blessings of Bhole Bhandari. During the fast, the devotees should consume food once in the evening. All the Tuesdays during this entire duration are dedicated to Maa Parvati, and the fasting on all these Tuesdays is known as Mangal Gauri Vrat. As per the best astrologer, this whole duration should be celebrated with great devotion, dedication and purity of heart and soul. It is also best to visit the temple every day, chant “Om Namaha Shivaye” and worship Shivalinga. Rudrabhishek can also be performed to have the blessings of Lord Shiva.
