Baisakhi, also called Vaisakhi, is one of the popular festivals in India that is celebrated with great joy, energy, and merriment. It is also recognized as the ancient harvest festival in the Punjab region in India. As per Astrology, it marks a greater significance as it leads to the start of the Mesh Sankranti. It coincides with a number of regional festivals. In Odisha, it is celebrated as Pana Sankranti; in West Bengal, it is known as Pohela Boishakh; in Manipur and Assam; it is recognized as Bohag Bihu; and in Kerala, it is celebrated as Vishu. The farmers recognize it as the beginning of the new harvest season.
When is Baisakhi 2023? Date and Day
Every year, usually, it is celebrated on the 13th or 14th of April. But, this year, it will fall on 14th April 2023, Friday in Vaisakh. The auspicious and holy duration for the festival will begin preceding the Mesh Sankranti from 3:12 PM.
Significance, Rituals, and Celebrations
Baisakhi is celebrated with great pomp and show, and people enjoy this festival. It is believed by Hindus that the Goddess Ganges arrived on earth from heaven on this day. So, the devotees also take a holy dip in the Ganges. The Gurudwaras are magnificently decorated. The devotees wake up early in the morning, wear new and vibrant clothes and offer prayers in the Gurudwaras. Then the special prasad known as “Kada Prasad” is distributed among them after offering to God. The “Langar” is also organized and prepared by the devotees. The traditional dance forms like “Giddha” or “Bhangra” are enjoyed by people. “Melas” are also organized in some places.
