Guru Purnima or Guru Poornima is the day to honor the Gurus or Teachers in one’s life. It is a very auspicious day as the Gurus are worshipped, and their blessings are taken on this day. Gurus, or Mentors or Teachers, are considered individuals who help eradicate the darkness from our life and spread the light of wisdom and knowledge. They also help us free from ignorance in our lives. Guru Purnima is usually observed in June or July; however, the dates keep changing yearly. The birthday of Ved Vyasa is observed on this holy day. Thus, this festival is also recognized by other names like Vyasa Purnima and Ashadha Purnima. The presence of the Guru in one’s life holds great significance as they show the guided path and make people lead inspiring and motivating life.

This year in 2023, Guru Purnima will fall on 3rd, July 2023, Monday. The Purnima Tithi will begin on 2nd July 2023, Sunday, at 8:21 PM and will end on 3rd July 2023, Monday, at 5:08 PM. 

Significance, Rituals and Traditions

It is believed that the prayers reach directly to Gurus on this day. Also, their blessings bring happiness, prosperity and success into the individuals’ lives. The rituals start with waking up early and cleaning the house. Take a bath and perform Puja and worship Gurus to seek their blessings. As per the best astrologer, celebrate this auspicious festival with great belief, pure heart and faith. The devotees may donate clothes, grains, sweets, fruits, flowers etc., to their Gurus as per the individual’s affordability. The parents and other elders at home are also considered Gurus. Thus, the children must seek their blessings also. Some people also start their spiritual lessons or “diksha” on this day.
